What Falls?

I had been to Butte Fall only about three or four times over the years.
But I never new that there was really a falls there.
Its about a 10 foot drop, but it is a falls.
The town is name after, this little falls.
Butte Falls is located west of Mount McLoughlin really close to the base.
Its a little logging down with city park in the center and the school on one side and gas station and store on the other two side.
Very red neck type, much more so then Wimer.

Home Improvement Time

I install this stuff last summer and forget about blogging about it.
It was stuck in the draft mod.
A microwave over the stove and new light over the breakfast bar, and a cool toaster oven we only had to wait 6 weeks for.
It hang under the cabinets and takes up no counter space.
Rochelle seem real happy with it.

There Is Crystal In There Hills

A friend at work told me about this place
were crystal rocks are laying around on the ground.
I got this area pen pointed on a map and seat out to found some.
I had been in the area geocaching, so I new the area some what.
I got there and found a locked gate, so I off loaded the MTB and road the mile or so in and hiked from there.

I hiked for about an hour and found some.
This one above, was in a crack in a about 600 pound rock in the middle of a skid road. The area you see is about 6 inch long.

The next piece I found in the middle of a deer trail, I was able to bring it back, It weighs about 5 pounds.
A little tricky riding the MTB with one hand and holding the rock in the other, through 2 inch of snow, I got back with out crashing.

This one is surrounded by an iron deposit
with the crystal in the center,
I cleaned it up when I got home and looks much nicer.
It seem that you only found crystal in broken rock not hole or round ones.
I found out later that I was to high on the hill, also that I my be able to drive in much closer.

This ThanksGaving Really Rocket

This Thanksgiving was really great, lots of great food from Rochelle, Pat, and many others that pitched in and helped.

After eating all the good food and talking are heads off.
I brought out and old rocket that Daniel and I build a long time ago.
We had some small problems, but all and all it was fun.
Next year, maybe some other and bring a rocket all so, and I see how it works out.

Book Report "A.D. Chronicles""

Aurthur's are Bodie & Brock Thoene (pronounced Tay-nee)
This is for books, one and two of the twelve.
One is called "First Light"
Two is called "Second Touch"
Its mostly about this blind beggar named Peniel, who meet Jesus and gain his sight, and what happens to him when He tell people how it happened, and what Simon the Pharisees thinks of the hole thing even when the table are turned.
And sweet, Lily who is a leper, that lives in the valley of Mak'ob, with 612 other lepers, and her mission to take a baby that is born there, and dose not have leperses and find a home for the bady to live.
Great insight into the jewesh laws and tradation.
This is a real tear jerker series. many time my heart would jump up into my throat.
So if don't want to cry, and read at the same time, don't read these books.

Can You See In The Dark?

Out caching late the other night and I found this really hard one.
This is cache that you look for reflector to guide you to the cache.
This one had 16 reflector to find.
Can You See In The Dark?
On the way back from not finding "one more time"
I pick up one of the reflectors, or returning reflectors.
I thought, if I can see these, just maybe I can spot the the in ward reflectors.
So I hunted around a little bit and find one, then I found another one.
All was going will, then I saw two reflectors side by side, I was think this must be the last one.
But then IT started moving around, (it is Halloween season), then there was two pare moving around.
I started moving closer the then I saw it was a three point deer, they continued to follow me, the rest of the time till I got back to the car.
I continued to find the reflectors alone the way, then I came back around were I stared, but I continued to find, till more,A then I came to the last one.
This is a fun cache, this is about the third one of these I have done.
Sorry if I didn't follow the rules.
I have a very bright head lamp I use for hiking.
But I did go back the parking lot and locate the first one, just so I would know were is was.
T= egg
L=pencils sharper.
Thanks for the hunt.

Oh No, I've Been Summons

Guess what?
Dan has received a Jury Summons.
Starting tomorrow I will be in a jury assembly room.
I'll go into action at 8:00AM.
What fun, I going to have.
I served on the Grand Jury about two years ago, every Wednesday for 5 weeks.
That was a lot of fun, learned about the law, got to hear the weirdest story every.
Will the rest of the story is,
Rochelle got called in the spring 09.
Robyn, called tonight, and she got her summons today.
And one of my mechanic, is serving next week.
It only for 3 days this time.
I see what, type of dumb criminal story, I get to hear this time.

Shooting off a Ship

Some time last year there was captain how was kidnapped from his ship.
The US Navy ended up shooting the kidnappers from a US navy ship.
Which could not have been a very easy shoot.
Read the caption at the bottom of the picture.
So now, you have a ship that's rolling on an ocean, any were from 3 to 6 feet, and now aim at a target, about the size of a quarter a mile away.
That's really good shooting.

Book Report Time "Tenth Stone"

Read lots of books lately, but been pretty lazy, time to stop that.
So, here it goes.
The Tenth Stone by Bodie & Brock Thoene.
This story is about a family of lepers that meet Jesus in the valley Mak'ob and what happen on there trip to the temple to show them self to the priest.
And at the same time, the story of the prodigal son, and how bad his life was, and why He left.
This is all fictional , but the Jewish tradition and as will as some of the historical info seems pretty real, as will as how there lives where lived, is very interesting.
It seem there is a few more books on the same bases, people that meet Jesus, how there life's may have been, by the same authors.
Short book about 250 pages.
I give it 4 stars out of 5.

Clear Lake, Oregon

Sam and Dan dived at Clear Lake, in the McKenzie pass area.
This is the clearest lake in Oregon.
A lot of diving is done here.
This is a row boat lake only, so there is no risk of getting hit by a boat.
We dove on Saturday at the north end, and got down to 55 feet with about 100 feet of vizeable,
Super clear water, really not must to see, but just WOW.
I was told the water temp would be as low at 40* degrees, but lucky for me and Sam it was only about 44* degree.
Another dive the next morning down
to 110 feet
but very poor vizes at the South
end were the we camped.
Sam swim out to the little island to find a
caches that was not there.
We had a great time.

What Is A Duathlon?

Molly and myself, did a Duathlon on June 13, at or behind the Rogue River Middle school.
This is were Molly, runs 5 k and Me (Dan) rides 30 k and then Molly get to run another 5K.
The last I did something like this was in high school in track, about 30 years ago.
And thing do change, I"'m much slow now then I was then. LOL
It starts at 8:00 AM, and get there by 7:30 AM
and I walk down and get our number, and Molly gets to wear the number, I get nothing, that's ok, no one will be able to tell who the slow guy is.
Rochelle is there as support and baby setter.
I go back to the car, now I have done all kinds of things to the bike to make sure that it won't break down, so I had replace the shifter cables and check bearing, and changed rear brake pads and ten other things, so all I have to do ride as fast, as an old fat guy can go.
This is 15 minutes before the race starts, I pull the bike off of the top of the car, I'm looking at the new smooth tires I install about a week ago and discover that I don't have a front wheel.

I left it setting beside the shop roll up door.

HOLY COW, off to the house to get the front wheel, 7 miles back and 7 more miles to the school.

Trying not to drive fast, because I know the Sheriff cruse the race route to keep the rider safe.
I get back to the school and throw the tool bag, water in holders, my riding shoes on, helmet, gloves, sun glasses and oh yes, the front wheel.
I push the 100 yards to the starting line, and I see Molly run off on her 5 k.
Lucky for me She gets to go first.
I couldn't remember what color her shirt was or the number She had on. I'm look for Molly and 24 minutes seem like forever when your in a hurry.

She comes in looking really good, and I wave and off I go, on a mountain bike with smooth tires and in a bunch road and race bikes.
I doing about 21 mph, and this point and thinking I going out way to fast for 18.5 miles.
At about 2 miles I came up to the pumpkin lady, she has this big orange shirt on and she doing about 20 mph, after be behind her for about a mile I pass her, and catch up the this guy in a black shirt, and that's where I'm at till just before Queen branch road coming from Rogue River on W. Evans, about 10 miles.
Just about Menthorne Road, the pumpkin lady flies by both of use and say to me, your doing pretty good for being on a MTB, and I never see her, must have be harming up and I get passed by one more bike at this point.
I pass mister black shirt on a hill just before Queen branch road and start down the hill, on Queen branch, peddling for all I worth, because all down hill, I can usualy do about 30+ mph, and I can't get pass 25, what going on, in the mean time I get passed by 5 red race bike flying alone.
I began to notion that theirs a big wind in my face and the wind is blowing up hill for that 1 mile stretch of road.
As 'm heading down E. Evans to Rogue River, I pass 3 more bike on the long hill to Stavation Heights, and once I hit there, I never see the pumpkin lady or anyone after that.
Rochelle and Molly were in front of the school when I went by, and run down the start line, so Molly could do Her last 5 k.

Molly did 8 minutes for about 7 mile in 50 minute.
Dan did 18.5 miles in 1 hour and 5 minutes.
Total time of 1 hour and 55 minutes.

We claim 3rd place in the mix team.

Annal Family Camp Out

Picures of the hike to Arch rock.

The annal family camp out was really nice this year.
We camp at Unqua falls on the South Umpqua River area, up the road from a little place called Tiller, Oregon.
I spent the week before the camp out, begetting the trail hitch on Rochelle car and the trailer ready, because it had not been used in about five years.
Come to find out, the wiring for the trailer light, being a Subaru, are a bit different, so we had to get a adtor to convert the wiring over to the trail type wiring.
That being done and working ok most of the time,(the lights on the trail stay on for about 5 minutes after you turn car lights off, weird).
Then the trailer wheel bears sound a little noisy when I turn the wheel, so off they came, and all the bearing were bad rusty, had to replace all four sets of bearing, this was on Wednesday, and we're leaving Friday.
Great the hitch is on, the lights work, the bearing are good, and tires on the trailer hold air, now.
All set to go.
We float the Rogue River on Saturday and we drive up the shop to unload the stuff and we have this trail on fluid coming from under Rochelle's car, coming from a radiator that has a crack in the plastic tank.
Make some calls and find that, that no one can get a radiator till Wednesday, and it Saturday, and we're leaving Monday for the big camp out.
I order the radiator on line and thanks to Randy, loaned us the Forester.
And no trailer this year.
We left Monday for camping.
I camp out all week the first time in 15 years or more and got see everyone, and swim and read books, and stay up late and road the moutain bike a coup of times.
A great camp out, got rained on one time, so we got to set up covers and what have you.

One Rock

This came in one of my e-mail in June.
I can't
believe this was done by a teenager!
There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy.25 in rural
Iowa. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left Completely undisturbed.
The artist:
Ray 'Bubba' Sorensen.

My Big Ant

I was out caching north of Grants Pass

on Dollar Mountain and came across

these two really big ant homes/nest.

The pictures don't do the nest justices,

so you need to click on the pictures to

real see the size.

There are about 2 feet wide and

about 12 inch to 16 inch high.

There were these little red and black

bode ants.

When I stepped in closer to take the

picture they didn't like me being that

close and started coming after me.

It didn't take long to get this part

done.

The Floaters

On Rochelle's birthday we all (about 15) hiked down to Rainy Fall on the Rogue River.
Had a great hike and no one fell into the river.
But as we set there a coup of boats did go over the falls.

And Rochelle received a very cool gift, she can hardly stop playing with it.
I'm sure Rochelle will have a post on Her blog about the wonders of the thing, as
soon as She gets it all sorted out. LOL

The Answer

Nothing!

What is it--
That we love more than life,
Fear more than death,
The rich want it,
The poor have it,
The miser spends it,
And the spend'rift saves it?

The Story of the Lost Camera

Some time ago I was geocaching in the Little Applegate area and I hiked in about half mile in twocaches.

Will on the way in or way out, I'm not sure witch it was, but I did know till I got back to the car, I lost the camera.
So there was not trail in or out so I was walking all over the place to get were I was going.
I thought I would never find it, so I started down the hill to go home and got to thinking, and remember that I had the GPS on tracker.
It copies a trails to the GPS so you can follow it if lost or walk on the same track to find something like a lost camera.

At about 2 miles a ways I turned around and went back and about 1/4 mile from the parking spot.
Now the fun starts.
A red dirt bike just misses the front of the car my inches, and just as I was in the clear, a white quard come in about 30 feet behind the dirt bike, by now the car is in the buck brush and stopped and right next to the driver's door the quard hit the brush and flip over head first.
I tried to get out really quick but the seat belt is one of the that move alone the door when you open, so I'm waiting for the seat belt to move and I get out and start to grap the quard to pull it off of the rider and started pulling when I found a hot pipe and had to let go, and find another hand hold.
An of course the car was to close to turn the quard on all fours, so I held to the quard till the rider could get out from under the machine.
It turned out that the rider was a little girl about 4 feet tall, she was about 18 or so.
She was ok, with no injuryes.
If the first bike would hit me, the quard would have hit me as will, and what a mess that would have been.
I went up the hill and followed the GPS back about 1/4 mile and found the camera.
What day.

Side note: at church today, the lesson was about tenthing.
When we pay our tenthing.
The Lord watches over use when we least exspeck it or need it.

Book Report" Indiana Jones"

Indiana Jones and Seven Veils.
By Rob MacGregor
I gave it and 3 out of 5 stars.

Indiana Jones, is on the trail of Colonel Percy Fawcett who is a real person who went missing in South America in about 1920 or so.

Colonel was looking the lost city of Z and never came back.

Many went looking for the Colonel, but came up dry.

Now the funny part is the Colonel was an Indiana Jones type person or another words.
So the Indian caitor is based on the real life Colonel.

Indian start out in England and then to New York and on the South America, following the Colonel's trail and even finds the Colonel.

Sterling Minning Ditch

This is a view of the Little Applegate valley.
Pick up about 4 caches along this trail.
I don't know these flowers
but look new
to me.

This is the Sterling Ditch it was dug by 400 Chinese workers in 1877.They needed to get water above the creek to wash out the gold that was stranded on the slopes in the ancient river gravel. This ditch is over 26 miles long and three feet deep. Nowadays this trail along the ditch is 17 miles long.

Book Report Time "Sahara"

Sahara

By Clive Cussler

A Dirk Pitt story, almost the best I read of Cussler's.

Great story, with lots of action and as will as the history side of his stories that He throw in to keep you interested.

Now if you saw the move you think the the book would be a re-run of that.

Not in this case at all. The move only touches on about quarter of the real story.

So reading the book is like see and all new story.

I gave it 4 starts out of 5.

Nugget Butte

Saturday April 4 I hiked to two geocaches above the city of Gold Hill, Oregon.
It took me about 2.5 hours to get this.

The hike to the "Not There Yet" cache is on top of a knobe about .75 miles from the parking area.
This a link to cache page.
Not There Yet

The view north is up I-5.
If you look close you can see the Rock Point bridge in the center.
Most of the boys from both families have jump off of the thing.
I just dive under it. LOL

Link to the cache page.
Nugget Butte

The big fields in this picture is the Del Rio farms.
Not to many years ago this was a very big pair farm.

It now the Del Rio Winery.
A 100+ acres of grapes.

The picture south is of both table rock mountains and Mt. McLaughlin.
